Hello

I am wondering if someone could recommend a nice town to stay overnight which is about 1 or 2 hours drive out of Frankfurt. Myself and 2 friends will be driving to Frankfurt from Paris in September and instead of staying in Frankfurt for one night before we head home to Australia, I thought it would be nice to stay in a town outside the city. I have stayed in Veinheim previously, but it is a little out of the way for me coming in from Paris.

I have been 'googling' towns like, Mainz, Kaiserburn etc, but have no idea what is available.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be really helpful

Heidelberg is lovely :-)

On your way from Paris to Frankfurt you will pass at the small town Alzey. They have a castle and half-timbered houses in the town center. And some parts of the mediaval town fortifications can still be seen. See the picture gallery on the towns website:

Mainz is a nice city but already very close to Frankfurt airport. Kaiserslautern is not really worth a stay.

Heidelberg is indeed lovely, and well worth visiting.

Speyer is beautiful.

German towns have excellent service.
Just type www.townname.de and you'll usually get the city website.
Also, contact the tourist information. They always send brochures and city maps for free by post if you ask them.

a couple of options, heidelburg about 1 1/2 hour drive via the autobahn or trier about 2 1/2 hours via the autobahn. trier is famous for it's roman ruins.
