Frankfurt am Main Travel Forum

Hi all,

We're in the process of planning our honeymoon and checking out flights. What we found includes 2 stop overs in Frankfurts both going and coming. The timings would be as follows:

FRANKFURT arrival 1625
complimentary overnight stay at airport hotel

FRANKFURT departure 1310 (next day)

FRANKFURT arrival 0925
complimentary overnight hotel at airport hotel

FRANKFURT departure 1025


Is there anything worthwhile that can be done between these time periods? Flights are from Lufthansa... I don't know which hotel they would offer. Would an airport hotel be close to anywhere to visit? If anyone has any helpful information please let us know!! :)

Hi,

Frankfurt is a wonderful city. I spent 12 hours between flights 2 years ago and could at least visit the most significant places: Roemer Platz, the Main River, the Cathedral, etc.
You can take the metro right from the airport to downtown; it's only 15 minutes.

There is only one hotel at the airport, the Sheraton. The S-Bahn into town departs more or less underneath it from the Regionalbahnhof and takes you to the very heart of Frankfurt city in less than 15 minutes. If it's the Sheraton, which is the only one that deserves being called an airport hotel, going into town is no big deal at all. If Lufthansa promotes a hotel in the surrounding satellite towns to an "airport hotel", things may be more difficult, depending whether it's close to an S-Bahn route or not.

There are several hotels near the airport that they would probably consider airport hotels. The Sheraton happens to be connected to the airport so that would be nice. I would jump on the train that leaves from the airport. You could certainly spend the day in downtown Frankfurt. If it happens to be on Saturday there is a nice farmers market going on where you could enjoy a sausage and beer. You could also take the train to Wiesbaden which is also beautiful. You will enjoy your brief visit to Germany and it will probably make you want to come back to explore when you have more time.

hmmm ok....will have to try and find out which hotel it is. I didn't to check before, but now that you mention it i checked and on the way back our free day would be a Sunday....would this mean most places would be closed? (by the way this would be on 24th May next year)....we're thinking ahead hehe :) maybe there is some special event or something planned which we should look out for?

there is little to do near the airport but you have plenty of time to go into central frankfurt. take the S bahn train to the hauphbahnhof in central frankfurt. the trip only takes 15 min. most of the attractions of frankfurt are walking distance from the station. besure to see the romer. also if you are interested in european art the stadelsches kunstinstitut is the best museum in frankfurt. if you are staying at the steigenberger airport hotel they offer a shuttle to the terminal every 15 min 24/7. have a wonderful trip.
