Hi!

I was in Sharm last June so I'll share my experience with you.
I waited until I arrived in Sharm to book our excursions. We really weren't sure what we wanted to do; we knew Cairo was a definite but we were open to try other trips. I'm sure there are dozens of companies and individuals that will all be happy to bargain with you for excursion rates. We used our resort coordinator who handled everything for us and I was extremely pleased. Wherever you are staying, check with the front desk--I'll bet they offer a similar service. It may be a bit pricier but I found all our trips were very organized & punctual.

We chose a camel ride into the desert, a day trip for snorkelling out onto the Red Sea, a daytrip to Cairo and the Quad rides.

The camel ride was fun for me but hubby hated it. The Bedouin children lead your camel out into the desert and you make a pit stop where the Bedouin men make bread & tea for you while you get a chance to smoke apple tobacco in a water pipe. Very cool.

The snorkelling trip was very nice but a word of caution. I'm not a swimmer but my coordinator assured me I could wear a life vest and mask and still be able to see the wonderous reef fish. Not so. The group I was with actually had to swim to the reef area where you could see the fish and I couldn't keep up with experienced snorkellers--I went back to the yacht. But that aside, still an amazing trip.

The day trip to Cairo was very long. We were picked up at 5:30a for a flight to Cairo. We could've chosen the bus for a cheaper fare but we preferred the quicker flight. In Cairo, we toured the Egyptian Museum, took a quick ride down the Nile, stopped at a Papyrus shop, had lunch 10 minutes away from the Pyramids, then we toured the Pyramid area. The AGRESSIVE vendors made our time at the Pyramids exhausting. Eventually, we just ignored everyone trying to approach us which seemed incredibly rude but the only effective way of being left alone.

The Quad bikes were definitely the most fun we had on the trip. We would've gone again had we had more time.

If you don't mind bargaining and shopping around, I'd wait until you arrive and see how great of a deal you can find. But if you're like me, you won't mind paying extra for the convenience of having the excursions set up for you--all of ours went off without a hitch.

Have fun!
