| Melbourne | Travel passes? Posted: Fri June 27, 2008 06:24 AM UTC
Hellos!
I am a student planning to travel to Melbourne for about a week with another friend in July. As we are planning to be as economical as we can, I was wondering if there are reccomendations for any travel passes, concessions or transportation in general. We do have the international student identity card, if that helps. :) Thanks!! |

Hi here's the web site for Metlink, who issue tickets - http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/fares_tickets.
There are student concession fares but I don't know if they are available for non Victorians. I've had a look at the web site to see if that quesion is answered but its not in the FAQ's. If you do e mail metlink and ask them, please let me know. Certainly there are discounts if you buy a 7 day pass. Good luck and enjoy Melbourne

You can get student concession prices for all city suburban Melbourne Train, bus and Tram services and the system is easy to get around. Make sure you carry your student ID so that if you are asked by an inspector for ID. Check this web site for trains info: http://www.connexmelbourne.com.au/
There is also a free city circle tram which runs around the CBD only but is very handy for short trips if you are staying in the city.

David
Sorry but the concession is available to primary, secondary and tertiary students from Victoria so they wont actually legally qualify for concession tickets. It may be better to get the 10x2 hours or the 5x Daily trip cards
