| Shanghai | Hotel recommendations ... Location, Service, Spa Posted: Thu June 26, 2008 09:02 PM UTC
I will be in Shanghai on the way back from Beijing and have currently booked at the Le Royal Meridien as it seems that it's walking distance to many places of interest.
I did, however, run into some negative reviews on this hotel's service and spa. I am a Starwood Memeber (Sheraton, Westin, etc). For this price range, is there a better option as far as service and a good spa? I see some in Pudong, but they seem further away. Is it easy to get to the shopping areas by metro from Pudong? (I have a map) Thanks. |

Hotel spa are always over priced and not that great. You can ask the hotel staff to recommend a place near by. I went to one on a side street behind Nanjing Road East which was not bad, I cannot rememeber its name but it is one street off the walking street almost behind the Wing On building. On teh same street several block further down towards the Bund there is another large spa, lots of lights outsdie so you can't miss but have not been in myself. You are right, there are more and newer spas in Pudong side, its not too expensive to cab over and back.

In response to your question about using the metro to get to the shopping areas. The metro is clean, efficient and well located to get you into the shopping areas from Pudong. We took the metro into the Bund shopping area a couple of times during our stay in Shanghai. Also consider taking the metro to the end of the line for some interesting sightseeing in areas less frequented by tourists (I think there is, or was, a large Jewish community in Shanghai at the end of one of the lines.) People were always friendly and helpful.
