| Hainan Sheng | Visa requirement Posted: Wed June 25, 2008 03:20 PM UTC
We (6 of us) are planning a trip to Hainan Island in early September. Heard that we may not need a China visa but am not sure about it. Do any of you Vters know anything about this ruling and how do we go about applying for it. Can we just fly in and apply for an entry pass? We will be there for 6 days.
What will the weather be like in September? Will it be easy to arrange for some transportation to take us around? Are there buses from Haikou to Sanya and othere points of interest? We are also looking for hostels in Haikou, Xinglong and Sanya. Thanks |

Well, what passport(s) are you travelling on? Why wouldn't you need a China visa?
If you don't have a China visa, you might not even be allowed to board the plane. Look on http://weather.msn.com/region.aspx?wealocations=Hainan for weather conditions. Yes, there're long-distance buses running.

I know people from some countries are able to just purchase a visa upon arrival at the airport, but that it's more expensive and you may not qualify, depending on where you're from and what you'll be doing. When I went to Hainan, I was surprised to learn I could have just paid cash at customs and gotten a visa there...
But, why take the chance? Because of the olympics, they may have changed the entry rules, too. Contact your local embassy. Do the paperwork before you go, to be safe and sure you can enter.

Yes, Schwein is right. Because of the Olympic Game, the entry rules has changed. Landing Visa has been cancelled and visa is required before you board the plane.
September will be hot, maybe will have some rain. There are so many taxis here, easy for your sightseeing. There are shuttle buses between Haikou and Sanya, RMB79/person, 3.5hrs. No need wait for a long time, every 15minutes, there is a bus.
