North America When are your sports seasons?
Posted: Wed June 25, 2008 08:17 AM UTC
I am going to ask a question that you will all probably think is obvious but coming from Australia I really have no idea about.
When is your baseball season? And also your football season?

We were in America last January and there was the Rose Bowl (?) but we didn't really pick up on many other big sports events. Coming from a country that revolves around cricket, AFL and NRL other sports are pretty interesting.

We went to a Supercross at Angel Stadium in Anaheim but I would love to see baseball played there. We are hoping to get back to the US in the next 12 months or so.

Thanks

Baseball season is from April until early October. There are professional football games from August through January. The College football season is from September until early January. College basketball is from November through March. There are also professional basketball and ice hockey leagues. There are several auto racing series, so there can be auto, or motorcycle racing almost year-round in some part of the country. The Nascar (stock car) season is from mid-February through November. The football I mentioned is American Football, not soccer. Gary

What part of the US do you plan to visit? I noticed that you had traveled to Southern California.

I am in Northern California, an hour north of San Francisco(SF), being in the SF Bay Area, we have access to many sports, actually too many to get enough events sold out.
Basketball - Golden State Warriors,in Oakland and Sacramento Kings
American Football(NFL)- Oakland Raiders and SF 49ers
Baseball -Oakland Athletics(A's) and SF Giants
American Arena Football -- San Jose Sabercats
Lacrosse - just started a Pro team(I am not sure)
Hockey - San Jose Sharks
Soccer - theres no pro team here anymore but they do hold events where teams from other USleagues or Mexican Teams play.

And there a major colleges providing similiar sports.
University of California, Berkeley
Stanford University, Palo Alto
San Jose State University -- they are in a smaller league

All the above mentioned sports and teams have their own websites which you can check out schedules.

Basketball and Baseball are played in the evenings, after 6pm, and for weekend the games take place during they day. Because of the numerous games it easy to get tickets.

American Football is played on Sundays, with occassional Monday Nite or Saturday. Games start at 1:00, plan a full day as it takes time to get into and get out of the games. it starts getting cold and rainy in late November. These tickets can by pricey and hard to get if they have a popular opponent. Pick the home team to avoid any hassling by the fans.
