Los Angeles Amtrak - los angeles to san diego
Posted: Wed June 25, 2008 01:47 AM UTC
Hi

I'm traveling from Los Angeles to San Diego by Amtrak .... and then I need to get to the airport.

Which Amtrak stop do I need for the airport? and is there a bus that goes from that station to the Airport?

How far away is the amtrak station from the airport ... just in case I need to get a cab?!

Appreciate any info!

Your two reasonable choices are the Old Town station and San Diego station.

The airport is about two miles from the San Diego station. The next-to-last station is Old Town, but not all trains stop there. Old Town is about 3 miles from the airport. What you save in train fare by getting off at Old Town you will spend on the slightly longer cab ride. It is about a tossup for both money and time.

Downtown near the train station is a rather ugly part of San Diego, IMHO. Purely for aesthetic reasons I'd get off at Old Town if I could.

If you're connecting to a bus, then the main depot Downtown is the best to get off at. From there, you take the 992 bus, boarding on Broadway, which goes right to the airport.
But, if you have to take a cab, then Old Town is the better station just because it's closer.
