| Bolivia | Health care in Bolivia Posted: Tue June 24, 2008 11:10 PM UTC
Hi... I am wondering what type of health care is available in a larger city like Cochabamba. My husband and I are wanting to move to Bolivia, and I am curious if I will be able to obtain my medications there (Wellbutrin and Seroquel (for sleep), and if they have any therapeutic help such as talk therapy for a Post Traumatic condition. I have to stay under the care of a physician, and I have found out that talk therapy is the best for PTSD. Do they have psychologists down there, and do they know anything about PTSD? We are wanting to retire in a peaceful country with a low cost of living, but will need some medical care. Please, can anyone help me? Also, if you know of any other country down there that may have good help with this, I would appreciate that info. too. Thank you. Lecia

I cannot say about Bolivia, but as for Argentina you can find outstanding health care and a low cost of living. It seems that every Argentine has a therapist, and most medications are easily available at a much lower cost than in the USA. Private health insurance is available at very low cost, which would include prescriptions, therapists, Doctors, hospitals and some even your dental work. I pay a bit over 100 US a month for a top of the line policy from Swiss Medical in Buenos Aires and I am no spring chicken :) In the USA such a policy would not even be offered for sale at any price.
Wherever you end up I would recommend bringing a 90 day supply with you so you have plenty until you get established with a new doctor. Suerte SAM

I love Cochabamba but it sounds like Samiapata might be a better option. Many Many expatriots move to this town 3 hours outside Santa Cruz. Good quality of life and plenty westerners who would love to help new ex patriots in the area. Plus you are close to Santa Cruz and have some of the best Bolivian medicine in the area.
