Santiago de Compostela Travel Forum

Hi everyone,

I'm planning for my trip to spain in october, i will spend the most of the time in barcelona
yet would like to visit Santiago de Compostela!
what are the possibilities to get there? taking "time" into consideration?

How much time have you got? It sure is worth the effort to go to Santiago de Compostela. SpanAir have regular flights at reasonable prices but if you want to see some of the countryside and if you have plenty of time up your sleeve to allow you to do so, you could go by bus or train. To do it comfortably you would probably be wise to break the journey and overnight somewhere like Burgos. You would only need a day or two in Compostela as the town is very compact and very easy to negotiate by foot.

i prefer not to have internal flights, to take advantage of knowing more the country!
Burgos i s a nice suggestion,... can we get there using both train and bus?

If you decide not to fly, then you may have problems wich cities or villages to visit as it is a long distance and many interesting places to visit. Maybe one way by bus/train and return by plane?

I hope it will work, if not I recomend you to do the search in viamichelin. Zaragoza-Burgos-Leon should be worthy a visit...maybe if the public transport has good schedules you can do it, just leave the coach for some hours visit the city centre(nice cathedrals and old quarters) and continue the route...but it is not a relaxed trip...

Even If I love driving along Spain, unless you have a couple of weeks off, I would suggest to take an internal direct flight (vueling & clickair from 30 euros each way, check prices at skyscanner.net) at least one of the ways, if not you will spent most of your time on trains & Buses.

Zaragoza / Burgos / Leon / Santiago (as said before) would be also my suggestion (trains schedules renfe.es, for buses movelia.com so you can check if timetables are compatible with your plans)

but if you have a week, I would suggest a minimum of 4 days in Barcelona and to fly to Santiago for the rest of the time, or maybe spend the rest of the week in Zaragoza (festival on the 12th October).
