Hello all wise travelers.

Considering recent political disturbances in Zimbabwe, how safe is it to travel there?

Thanks.

Consider that the opposition leader is in hiding at the Dutch Embassy. If you choose to visit you might not want to criticize Robert Mugabe in public. On the other hand you might be able to pick up a one of those colorfully stylish shirts with Mugabe's face on both front and back!

Hi Shelley,

I would avoid the place like the plague! Firstly, Mugabe is blaming western nations (especially the US) for the trouble being caused there. Secondly, why legitimise this country by spending your money there - foreign income should be cut off (including international funding) as a means of forcing a regime change.

Unless you really have to go there, I would stay away - and that goes for anyone else who wants to travel there! As a group, we travellers spend enormous amounts of money (for some countries a major part of their GDP is from tourism) and we should use this fact to help nations achieve a better outcome, be it political, environmental or economic.

I hope I make sense,
Regards
John

You'll be fine visiting Vic Falls at the moment, ideally crossing over from Zambia but I would avoid the rest of the country now. Things have snowballed out of control the past week.

Thank you all for your advice. We will be there the first week of November. Who knows, things may improve by then.... we have the whole travel plan paid for and organized, I don't think we can back out of it...
