| Boston | Hotel Search with Public Transportation Posted: Mon June 23, 2008 10:01 PM UTC
Help. Will be staying in Nashua around the 4th and would like to take kids to see fireworks in Boston. It doesn't look like the bus from there returns late enough for us to see the show. Also, I don't think the T runs on this holiday, so driving to closest station (Lowell) is out. What next? Can anyone recommend a hotel that would be at or very near a bus stop as far out from the city as possible, but one that would take us right into the heart of the fun?
We're trying to avoid driving in Boston, high parking fees... |

As far as I know the T does run on holidays, but they use a Sunday/Holiday schedule, so trains are every few hours rather than every hour. You can go to www.mbta.com and get detailed schedules.

Thanks. I checked the website again. Don't know what I was seeing earlier today. But it now shows that specifically on 7/4, it runs on a Saturday schedule.

The T subway will run on July 4th, but not the bus system. I don't know about the commuter rail.
You could always drive to Alewife Station at the end of the red line. (take rt 3, to 95S, to rt 2 towards Arlington). There's parking there for $5/day. You can take the train straight to Downtown Crossing and then walk to the Esplanade (about 10 mins with kids).
