| Shanghai | Shanghai in early/mid July Posted: Mon June 23, 2008 03:30 PM UTC
Hi,
What is the weather like in early / mid July? What are the not to be missed attractions? What is there to buy and where to shop? Am not looking for anything in particular, but just wondering. Thanks! |

The Bund is of course not to be missed, as well as walking along Nanjing Rd. I loved going to the area around Yu Yuan Garden. I didn't go into the garden itself but there are a myriad of shops and a pond next to the garden that is quite beautiful.

Shanghai is hot and humid in July, and all summer,in fact. The temperatures here are similar to a large southern city in the US such as Atlanta.
You must see Xiang Yang market in the subway station under the Science and Technology museum in Pudong. See my Shanghai page for more information about this place and how to get there. When you arrive or depart Shanghai, be sure to try the Maglev. It is a ride you won't forget! There is information about it, as well, on my Shanghai page.

We really enjoyed the French Concession. There are so many charming and unique small stores and many interesting streets to roam. It is easy to walk there from Nanjing Rd. and more relaxing than taking a taxi. Also, there is an excellent bookstore there, GardenBooks, 325 Chang Le Rd. A small cafe is in the bookstore as well. The Boonna cafe is fabulous too (free internet), with good food and coffee and great staff (atmosphere is cozy and sophisticated)..the one on Xinle Rd. The new cafe is more modern. Have fun!

Hot and humid during this month, around 25-38 degrees Celsius.
You could probably buy just about anything, if you have the money. But there's no point buying what you don't need/want, right? Must-see attractions probably vary somewhat from person to person, since you didn't provide any information about your interests/preferences, I don't know what would float your boat.
