| Boston | Downtown Marriotts - which is better for a family of 4 Posted: Mon June 23, 2008 02:59 PM UTC
We'll be in Boston for a couple days in August as part of a New England vacation. Our plan is to use Marriott points in Boston, so we're debating between the Downtown/Tremont Marriott and the Copley Square Marriott. We've seen a number of compliments and criticisms on other sites, but wanted a bit of additional feedback. Does anyone have experience at one or both of these places. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Tremont Marriott is located in the Theater District. While that is centrally located, it's not my favorite area. When you say Copley Square Marriott, I assume you mean the Cople PLACE Marriott. That's in a very nice location in the middle of a shopping Mall and adjacent to Copley Square. You didn't mention them, but there are two other great properties in Boston: The Marriott Long Wharf and the Marriott Custom House.

Is the Tremont located closer to the Freedom trail, etc.? (With our kids we're trying to limit any unnecessary walking.) Is the theater district OK for families or would Copley place be better (or is there even a difference)?
Thanks for mentioning the other two hotels - they would be preferred, but they were just too expensive (we're using both points and cash). Thanks for your help.

i stayed at the copley place marriott and it was fine, great location, but our room was tiny. i mean TINY. like...three steps and you are on the other side of the room tiny. the bed seemed to just fit with enough room to walk around it.

If you plan on walking to the Freedom Trail sites, then the Theater District is closer. Most of the time, this area is of not of concern. It gets a little "sketchy" late at night, but with kids in tow, I doubt you'd be out (or early) enough for this to be an issue. If you're going to use the subway, then the Copley Place location is okay, too.
