We are planning a trip to Gozo and would like advice on interesting places we can visit with the kids (apart from beaches, swimming etc), and budget restaurants where the kids can have a nice time. Any advice much appreciated! Thanks

Make sure you visit:

- Dwejra (Azur Window, General's rock & Inland sea) its all in 1 place, would be nice to take a boat trip round the caves.

- Ta' Pinu church: very beautiful shrine

- Cittadella (gozo old capital city), its a fortified town and from there can enjoy fantastic views

- Ggantija Temples (similar to Stonehendge)

Restaurants, good ones with reasonable prices: Otters in Marsalforn / it-Tmun in Rabat or in Xlendi / D-Bar in Qala

Gozo is small, and best means of transport is to rent a car.

It's been many years since I last visited Gozo but the island used to have this fantastic hand-blown glass factory not far from the town centre. I don't remember the name of the place but hopefully it still exists. Your kids would enjoy visiting this one and even try at them in their workshop. Happy trails.

The beach (rocky) around the 'Azure Window' is absolutely stuffed full of fossils, so they'll enjoy that.

Gozo really is very small though, so I suggest you think about a day or two on Malta itself via the ferry. Either take a car (if you are hiring) or use the brilliant yellow buses (the kids will love travelling on them; some are really old).

Mellieha is not far from Cirkewwa (the Malta ferry dock) and has excellent tunnels to explore (used as air-raid shelters in WW11) as well as a sandy beach. Nearby is 'Popeye Village' the set for the film:

You could also get the bus to Valetta, with fortifications and harbour, or to Rabat/Mdina, with Medieval streets and the 'Knights of Malta'.

Have a look at the VT pages on these places for ideas about what else to see/do.

There aren't any beaches on Gozo. That's why there are few tourists, especially few children. And the bus service is frightful.

Enjoy!
