Hello friends.

I getting to the Buffalo Airport in July. Our plan is to visit the Niagara Falls and then Canada for a few days.

In detail, we would like to get to Canada, rent a car to leave in Montreal later, and visit the Niagara falls traveling with our car. We think that getting a car in the Buffalo Airport and leave it in Canada would be rather expensive. So, do you have any suggestion? I do not know which is, for instance, the best way to go to a place where I can rent a car in Canada from the Buffalo airport. Looking at the area map it seems that getting to St. Catherine or Hamilton could be quicker than getting to Toronto. Do you know if it is possible?

Well, you can just cross the border at Niagara Falls. It is not only the FALLS, it is a big town. You have to get yourselves to from Buffalo airport to Niagarafalls US side first. Then if a little luggage just walk the bridge to the Canadian side. It is right accross the river...both sides are towns . One side is the US Town the other is Canadian. Canadian side is much much bigger and nicer and funner by the way.Must stay 1 night Canada at least. Or you can just take a cab from Niagara Falls US into Niagara Falls Canada. Then in the Niagara Falls Canada rent a car. However, book your car well in advance and make sure you show up on time. It is very very busy that time of the year. And the car companies will say "XXX type of car and or similar" if you are not on time it will go to someone else and you may end up with a car that you don't like. St.Catharines is much closer but no point to go that far. Just look for a car rental location at NIAGARA FALLS CANADA. You DEFINETLY don't need to TORONTO to rent a car! Unless you really want to. If you have time take your car in Niagara Falls. (Pick it up after your stay in Niagara falls, everything is walking distance and very hard to find parking)then drive yourselves to NIAGARA on the LAKE (another town) and make sure you go through the NIAGARA PARKWAY by the river. You can stay in Toronto for a night. It is a big big city.
But unless you have special desire to see a big Canadian city you can skip it and drive to 1000 islands area. Make sure you do stop by the 1000 islands do the boat tour and stay 1 night.Then keep on driving to Montreal.

You will need to return the rental car in the country that you pick it up in. If want to return the car in Canada, rent it in Canada. You can take a shuttle van from the Buffalo Airport to the Falls area, walk accross the boarder and rent a car there. I agree that you want to reserve the car well in advance (and show up on time.)
