| Kuala Lumpur | maximum baggage allowance Air Asia Posted: Sun June 22, 2008 08:01 PM UTC
Hello,
We will be flying from KL to Kota Bahru and back with Air Asia. I understand each person is allowed to carry a maximum of 15 kgs. However, we expect to carry around 20 kgs each. Do we have a problem? Please inform me about your experiences! Otjesjr |

I had excess baggage with air asia flying from siem reap to Kl. They just charged me for it. In australia, using them to fly to KL, I could book and pay in advance for the weight of baggage that I thought I would have. It is cheaper doing it this way if you can.

hello there,
im a 23 year old student in KL, and a frequent flyer with Airasia. Here's a trick, in LCCT: build a good rapport with the person behind the check in counter. Often if i have excess baggage, he will just it go. Or, what u can do is transfer 5kgs or other heavy items in ur hand luggage. they're quite lenient with the handluggage ie. they do not weight it in. I often put my heavy items, like books in my backpack and other light items in my check in luggage. and it often works. sometimes my backpack is heavier than my check in luggage! and if u are worried about ur hand luggage size, Do not. AirAsia or most airlines in Malaysia are not strict with Ur hand luggage size, as long as it fits in the cabin. this trick applies to mostlow cost airlines. ive used this on most airlines in both asia and europe like airasia, ryanair, firefly, jetair etc. In short, be nice, pack heavy in hand luggage, have big (but reasonable) sized hanglugage size. hope this helps. kind wishes, izad in Kuala Lumpur

otjesjr, it is about RM10 per excess kg.
I ve heard stories from friends that they will only charge the excess baggage fees if it is >5kgs in excess. though i cant confirm the validity of it. it depends on the person behind the counter. if he wants to charge, he'll charge. if he doesnt want the extra paperwork, he'll just let it slide. Bit of luck. hope it goes well. for more info try this link http://airasia.com/site/my/en/page.jsp?reference=FeeSchedule best of luck Izad
