| State of Queensland | Cairns/Mission Beach August tremperatures Posted: Sun June 22, 2008 12:26 PM UTC
I'll be spending about a week on the Queensland coast, based mostly in Mission Beach during the first week of Auguat. I'm just wondering what kind of temperatures to expect and what I should pack to be comfortable both during the day and in in the evening. Should I expect quite drop in temperature at night?
Thanks for your tips. Sarah |

It is still our winter in Australia in August, but in Mission Beach, I think you will find the weather quite warm. I live in Brisbane which is quite a bit south of Mission Beach and the weather here at the present time is glorious. Temps ranging from 9 - 24 deg. Celsius. It should be even warmer in Mission Beach and of course, waqrmer again come August. The nights can get a little bit cooler, so you would be wise to have a jacket handy.

Coming from Ireland you'll find it quite warm (unless you spend some time in a place like Bangkok on the way and get used to warm weather). Nights will be cool. Anywhere along the coast temperatures are moderated a bit.

Hi
As a guide, it will be about 25-30 degrees C during the day - yes, warm enough to hit the water! At night, a pullover or long sleeve shirt should do. If flying into either Sydney or Melbourne, be warned that temps there could be as low as 10-17 C during the day so you should be suitably attired. Have a great time. John

The official weather bureau figures (for Cairns) show the average maximum temp for August being 26.3C and the average minimum being 16.3C.
