| Melbourne | Melbourne & Great Ocean Road in July Posted: Sun June 22, 2008 12:22 PM UTC
I'm staying in Melbourne for a week in mid-late July and will be taking a weekend trip along the Great Ocean Road. I'm just wondering what sort of temperatures to expect and what kind of a wardrobe I'll need to take to be comforatble both during the day and in the evenings/at night.
All tips gratefully received! Thanks, Sarah |

Hi Expect GOR to be wintery, cold and at times wet. Bring warm clothes including coat and rain gear. There should be some sunny patches.
Good Luck, Mike

As Mike has said, its cold here in July. Overnight down to 4 degrees C and day times anything from 9 to 16. If you can PLEASE bring us some rain that would be greatfully received - and not the sort if drizzle we've been getting recently.
Suggest you bring warm clothes with you for the GOR

As the others have said, expect cold and wet weather. It also depends on wind. On a cold windy day temp can be 10-12 C, but it feels like -5 C. On a calm sunny day, you could almost have a picnic outside. The sea side is usually windier and cooler with more rainfall than Melbourne. So, waaaarm clothes recommended!

Jeans, black pants, boots. Some layered tops - starting with thin dressy top for going out, perhaps a black skivvy, a tee shirt. A thin jumper or cardigan. A thin coat. Add a scarf and a very small raincoat that can be rolled up tightly. Melbourne's weather is unpredictable at all times but July is mid winter so expect cold nights. Days can be delighful and warmer than you expect. Great Ocean Road can be cold, particularly the wind - perhaps a woolly hat to keep your ears warm. When in Melb you can always do a spot of clothes shopping if you don't have adequate attire.

Thanks, everyone. That's useful, especially sammyalaine for recognsing a girls's need to be equipped with clothes for all social and meterological situations!
