Okay, so I keep hearing & reading conflicting info about MP. I keep hearing that MP is "booked" months (5-6) in advanced. Is this for actual entrance to the ruins or for tours/hikes? I am traveling solo in mid-September (already bought flight and about to purchase train tickets). I know I need to purchase entrance tickets a few days ahead of time. So, can anyone clear up the information about MP being booked months in advance?

This has been discussed several times lately in the MP forums.
The Inca trail is booked months ahead as there is a limit on participants, the entrance to the MP ruins not (yet). But yes, there is a need to buy the entrance tickets to the MP ruins ahead of time. See Marissa´s pages, risse73, for more info on this.

Hi. When you arrive to Aguas Calientes (the town near to MP) by train you can buy the ticket the same day or the day before in this town. You have to book in advance only if you are planning to get MP by the inca trail.
