| Ho Chi Minh City | 14 Days in South Vietnam and Cambodia Posted: Sat June 21, 2008 08:30 AM UTC
I will be taking a vacation for the first two weeks of July. I'll be landing in Ho Chi Minh city and flying out of Siem Reap Cambodia.
What places would you suggest that I see besides Angkor of course? I'd like to spend a few days on the beach. Thanks in advance |

From HCMC it's only an hours flight to Phu Quoc island for some beach time. I personally feel that 1 day is not enough for the Mekong delta with the floating markets, Sadec etc to see. Phnom Penh is also good for a couple of days while on the way to Siem Reap.

I was thinking about heading out east to Nha Trang to get in some beach time. I think the weather in Phu Quok at this time is pretty wet. My thoughts thus far are: Saigon, Dalat, Nha Trang, Mekong Delta, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
How does that sound?

Would you fly to Nha Trang ? As it's 445 km from HCMC and would take approx. hours e/w on a bus, so losing 2 days just for travelling. Dalat is nothing much to see for longer than a day and could be used just as a stop-over on the way to Nha Trang. Otherwise itinerary looks o.k.

Yeah. I'm going to fly to Dalat and then take a bus to Nha Trang. Then maybe take the train back to Ho Chi Minh.

If you want a nice beach, go to Nha Trang. I stayed at the Hai Yen Hotel, which is on the Esplanade. The Hotel was reasonably priced, and I had no complaints there, would recommend it. This is a lovely area for walking and enjoying the beach. At Nha Trang, if you want, you can go to the islands for more beach and parasailing. Another nice spot, was Cham Island a boat trip away from Hoi An. You can Stay at the beach area, the guide said about $5 a night in a bungalow. We had a lovely lunch here, and r&r. Not many tourists if you want a quiet area. I also flew from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh in March, cost $50, the best way to go as far as I was concerned. For more info, see my travel page, I was there in March doing similar to you, only longer time.

hi i'm also travelling Vietnam/Cambodia from 22nd july to 14th August. Spending 3 days around Hoi Ann area and 3 days Nha Trang. What islands would you recommend? Also me and my mate are trying to make the trip as cheap as possible as heading away next year to S America... so could you give rough prices to like hotels, food etc.
Thanks Chris :)
