Munich Apartment Needed
Posted: Fri June 20, 2008 11:28 AM UTC
I am going to Munich on July 12th and will be there till August 28th. I am in desperate need of very cheap accommodation. I'm a student and can't afford to pay more than 1000 euros or so. I have an internship at Munich and my boyfriend will be working there too. We are looking for a CHEAP 1 bed apartment for 6 weeks. Can anyone please, please help me???

Here is a website with some good tips: http://www.expats-in-bavaria.com/housing/house_hunting_tips/finding_an_apartment_in_munich/
I know that when we moved to a suburb right outside of Frankfurt, Germany, we found the best deals in the local newspapers. It took us about a week of calling and visiting the different houses advertised. You can probably start looking at the newspapers on line before you arrive.

You should try looking at www.wg-gesucht.de

WG is short-hand for a shared flat and you want "Zwischenmiete", short-term rent. The above site lets you pick the dates of the short-term rent. Munich is very expensive and it is very very hard to find a cheap flat, especially for such a short time. Your best option is therefore a room in a shared flat. (Yes, even with 2 people.) Many students will be gone over the summer holidays, you should be able to find something.

You can also try to use www.couchsurfing.com and other hospitality sites, there are 1000+ registered couchsurfers in Munich. Sure, you normally only get to stay for a few days, but if you travel light you can easily move around so it is not that big a problem.
