Malta Query about prices in Malta
Posted: Fri June 20, 2008 10:54 AM UTC
Hopefully my last question in here! You have all be so helpful!

What are prices like? I fly-out on 30th and am looking to get my Euros in the next few days.

How much for a beer? A coffee? bus ticket?

In general terms, obviously, but it would help with my calculations!

According to a piece in the Guardian today in Malta a coffee is the equivalent of 80p, a bottle of heineken £1.89 a 3-course evening meal for two with wine £42 ....however we came back from France last week and noneof the comparisons shown for France bear any relationship to what we were paying!
You could save money by using your Debit Card at an ATM to get Euros when you arrive there - particularly if you have a Nationwide Flexaccount which makes no charges.

Similar range of prices to the UK but bus tickets cost peanuts. Have a great trip!

Like anywhere Touristy, there are "Tourist" and "Local" prices.
As are prices paid in "Venues" and prices paid for, in a "normal" shop.

"Normal" prices are no different than most European places.
However Bar prices are high, especially if you are getting entertainment included.

Expect to pay as if you were home in the same circumstances.

Coffee, depending on whether you just want Nescafe or real-coffee, depends on where you drink it.

If it is "Al-Fresco" you pay high, if at a local cafe it is low.

Again: expect to pay as if you were at home under similar circumstances.
I suspect you will survive.

I do find that budgeting so close for a holiday defeats the purpose but we must make sure not to ruin your calculations.

Oh...a bus ticket is 0.47 Euro Cents!
A Heineken is 1,5 Euro in Tourist places, approx. 0.8 in normal places.

Thank you - I don't want to appear a "cheapskate" but I do need to know how many Euros and, possible , Travellers Cheques to take with me.
I guess after my Rome and Venice experiences I am a bit wary of being ripped-off but generally i have never had any problems budgeting before!
Yum - thinking of a cold beer in a warm place now seems a very attractive proposition!

If you have a fixed "maximum holiday spending money" take that with you or make sure it is in the Bank account you use to make withdrawals from an ATM.
