| Salzburg | Berchtesgaden Posted: Fri June 20, 2008 06:45 AM UTC
Hello
I am interested in going to Berchtesgaden perhaps to do a hike and to visit Eagles Nest. What is the best way to get there from Salzburg? Thanks |

You can reach the area either by train, or by bus. The trip up to the Eagle's Nest is much more impressive than the actual building. You might also wish to visit the Koenigssee, an alpine lake, where you can board an electric boat for a trip acroos the lake. There is also the salt mine tour. You can also travel up the mountain on the Jennerbahn. There is also the national park nearby. You can actually hike out to the Koenigssee on the "Koenigsseer Fussweg". There are also hiking trails around the lake, and in the park. Gary

Several years ago we did the saltmine tour. Really something different. Enjoyed it a lot. Though it's not my nature to use Grayline Tours, this is what we did from Salzberg.

The train station in Salzburg is both an Austrian, and German station. You will be able to purchase your ticket(s) at the German counter. You might go to the following web site for information on the Bayern Ticket, or Bayern Ticket-Single. This ticket will save you money, and covers virtually all of the public transport in the area: www.bahn.de/international/view/en/prices/germany/l

There are buses from in front of the Salzburg railway station to Berchtesgaden.
