| Vancouver | HSBC Celebration Posted: Fri June 20, 2008 12:09 AM UTC
My family and I (husband, 2kids ages 18&20) are traveling to Vancouver this summer. Coincidentally we'll be there on July 26th for the HSBC celebration of light fireworks show, which we're very excited about going to. Can you go to the beach in the morning and put towels or chairs out and leave...or do you have to hang out all day to save your place?
Thanks for any help you can give! |

I'm pretty sure they would be moved at some point. There will be over 200,000 people around the area and saving an area might not work

I've gone for several years now. If you're planning to go down to English Bay then the "trick" is to get down there no later than 6pm and stake out some space with blankets, tarps, etc. Someone has to stay with this or it will be stolen. Many people bring down a portable BBQ and/or a picnic.
An alternative is to watch it from the southern shores - not as close but still nice. Here the crowds are much less rowdy and you can get down by 8:30pm and still find a place to sit. Please do pay attention to the parking & driving restrictions, especially downtown.

If your story is true then I'd strongly recommend you contact Bill Good at http://cknw.com and inform him of this incident. You will, of course, need to provide names, contact phone numbers, etc. to backup your story.

And why did we have to read all this drama in THIS thread...?? Like you couldn't open one of your own to tell your SAD SAD story (I even wonder whether it's true)... you're not even a "real" member yet, first get a name and an identity and then come and ramble about your tragedies but do it in the right place, not invading others' threads and answering something that had nothing to do with their original query.......

Thank you for stating that, Laura. I wholeheartedly agree. It's very suspicious to me that someone registers on VT, remains completely anonymous, and then rants on about something that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. This is NOT the Miscellaneous forum.
Such people are generally called "trolls". With that said, perhaps this story is true. But it's a very strange place to communicate this information. I sincerely do encourage this person to contact CKNW, as I suggested. If it is true, they will be VERY interested to hear it. I highly doubt this person will ever follow through though.
