The Palma Rima is walk away from the Kotu beach. Large hotel, I would say a 2 star equilvalant in UK. It is famous for it's large outdoor pool (biggest in Gambia!) Hotel accommodation plus bungalows out in it's grounds. Expect basic. Lots of mixed remarks lately surrounding the Palma Rima, that standards have 'gone down' in general, and the once brilliant breakfast they used to provide to the tourist has now diminished considerably. Obviously, meals and drinks are more expensive, than outside the hotel, but you have restaurants etc. nearby.
Depends on what you want you are looking for. Just somewhere to lay you head, and be out and about all day it would sufice. However, if you are someone who's accommodation matters when on holiday, I would look to paying slightly more and upgrading. My suggestions would be: Kombo Beach, Senegambia Hotel, Kariba Hotel, Sunbeach. Some good ones at Cape Point which is a very nice area.
They is also some very nice self-catering accommodation available, which are to good standards. Plenty of supermarkets around, which can cut the cost of the hotels.
Hope this helps!

The Palma Rima is very much past its best, have you thought about a private vila which you can get for around £200-£3oo to accommodate around 6-8 people.
We always go for the private villa now its tons better and if you look for one close to the senna gambia strip its perfect.
There are some villas on the Internet or accessgambia.com.
We used to stay at the palma rim every year, the best villa we stayed at was the mango villa (superb)but difficult to get a booking as it is very popular.

Good look
