Tampa Best vantage points of the skyline
Posted: Thu June 19, 2008 07:26 PM UTC
I will be visiting Tampa soon and wanted to know where some of the best vantage points are for taking pictures of the downtown skyline. I know that in the immediate area is a Riverwalk (or some portion of one), Harbour Island, Davis Islands, Channelside, Bayshore Blvd., Hyde Park Village, the University of Tampa, and the financial district, but I am not sure about the walkability of all these areas and what kinds of vantage points they offer. In other words, if you were going to take photos of downtown Tampa, where would you go? There will be two children with us, so I certainly would be looking for places that have sidewalks or are otherwise pedestrian-friendly. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

There's nothing really to take a picture of in downtown Tampa lol. I'd look at taking pictures of the skyline of Clearwater from the beach.

Curtis Hixon Park provides a really interesting point of view. This is directly downtown on the Riverwalk. I've gotten some really good sunset pictures from that location. Also, depending on how far you can walk, about a mile up Bayshore Blvd the road curves along the bay and all of downtown can be photographed from that vantage point.

Please check my Tampa page for some pictures of the Tampa skyline.

You can take pictures from Plant Park across the Hillsborough River from Downtown on the campus of the Univ. of Tampa.

On Bayshore Blvd. near the bridge to Davis Islands is nice.

At the Florida Aquarium area, also Harbor Island From around the restaurant Cafe DuFrain.

If you have a telephoto lense then the view from Ballast Point park is nice, without the lense it just looks far away.

And then if you can get into the right room in Tampa General Hospital you can get excellent view of downtown Tampa. I had a beautiful view in a private room on the 7th floor.
