| Barcelona | A quick visit to La Sagrada Familia Posted: Thu June 19, 2008 03:53 AM UTC
I will be arriving Barcelona to board a ship for a cruise. If, and it is a BIG IF, my flight is on time and all goes smoothly, I should have about 3-4 hours
after boarding & before departure to visit Sagrada Familia...can someone suggest the best mode of transportation? Cab, I would imagine. Also, how far from the port is it? I realize what I want to do may not be feasible...but I'll never know until I try! |

| REPLIES to A QUICK VISIT TO LA SAGRADA FAMILIA (1 - 11) |

not sure if the bus turista stops anywhere near the passenger terminal but if it does ( a local may know) you may be better using this to get to the Sagada Familia - you may have to change from one bus to another at Placa Catalunya but you will see more from the open top bus than a taxi - if the timings allow fo r this
hope you sort it Julie

Will you have to carry all your luggage or will it be transported from the airport to the ship for you?

It is perfectly possible to catch a bus etc but if you have 3 - 4 hours only, it is probably best to get a cab because the queues to go inside the cathedral can be slow. Also, once inside, there is a fairly slow walk around and then up and around the towers. After all, you don't want to miss-out from seeing the interior.
If you really do have time at the end, get the return cab to drive past other Gaudi buildings in Pasiege de Gracia for example.

If you have so little time, you must take a taxi, forget about tourist buses.
And pls do not commit the typical mistake of some tourists of telling the driver you want to go to the cathedral. Sagrada Familia is not a cathedral. The cathedral of Barcelona, which is a beautiful building is of Gothic style and is far away from the Sagrada Família.

As another option: you can get to it by metro with one change at Passeig de Gracia or Diagonal stations. Take the metro at Drassannes. I agree, though, that a taxi might be the best option for obvious reasons.

| Barcelona | Thank You for the great information on Sagrada Familia! Posted: Sat June 21, 2008 02:04 PM UTC
All of your answers/suggestions are helpful and I appreciate the effort in replying! This i'net is such a wonderful tool...just wish it was not misused so much.
I am going to print and take the info with me and hope we arrive in time for a visit. We will go to ship first, and luggage will not be an issue...if our flight arrives on time, we can probably make a quick run and am glad to know not to ask for "cathedral"...will use my rudimentary Spanish is necessary, but probably won't be! I will post what happens when we return...that will be in September; however, I may have more questions so you may see me again on this forum or one of the other ports we will be visiting.

Actually, our luggage will be taken care of by the cruiseline from the airport to ship port...so we won't be encumbered...and we will check in and & board ship
prior to going out again, so can leave the carry on luggage. Are you a Texan, too? Any other ideas you might have would be greatly appreciated. We are also going to Marseille, Florence/Pisa, Rome, Naples/Pompeii, Mykonos, Istanbul, Ephesus, Athens and Venice. I plan to get on forums for some of those...but imagine some of you on this one have been those places..and many more!

Good - I'm relieved about that! No- not a Texan - English but adopted Welsh after living in Wales for by far the greater part of my years!
I'm sure you are right- you would get lots of help with your other ports of call, just post your questions in the relevant Forum when you are ready. I don't think I would be much use with those other detinations. Apart from popping over the border from France for a couple of days it is a long time since I was in Italy for any length of time - and never very much on the coast for long. Best of luck with your plans. Barbara
