I am arriving in Chennai by train from Trivandrum on Monday morning (June 23rd).
I am looking for a decent, clean, fan-cooled room with own bath in the 500 Rs range. Is this possible? I want to attend the auto expo at the Chennai Trade Centre. It is in Nandambakkam - which I understand is some 8km from the city centre. Can anyone give me options and costs to get there - i.e. bus, rickshaw, taxi, train? Thanks very much for your help. I am not sure about the accomodation.
I dont know the best possible public transport. Obe way is to reach Guindy from central station by the local train. Local train station (Park station) is opposite chennai. Then from guindy you can get many buses to Nandambakkam. May be there are buses from Central directly to Nandambakkam, i dont know their Numbers. But asusual the buses will be crowded. If you want to be comfortable Call taxis are best. They may charge upto Rs.350 from Central to Nandambakkam. Some call taxis are Chennai call taxi, Fast track call taxi. Please check their number on the net.

You can definitely get a room with fan and bathroom for 500 Rs, particularly now, as this is not high season. Have a look at a few places and don't forget to bargain. Get a prepaid rickshaw/taxi at the stand opposite the main entrance of Central Station...

It is possible to find a room in the range of Rupees500 with bath attached and fan cooled room in Chennai.
Chennai trade centre located in Nandambakkam can be reached only by bus as there is no direct train service. Depending on the location of your hotel, suggestion can be given as how to reach Chennai trade centre. From your hotel you can ofcourse get a call taxi but that would be some min.200 rupees depending from where you will board the taxi. You may check your vt mail for my suggestions.
