Oregon Mount Bachelor

Anyone got any more info on Mt Bachelor other than their website? Is it a viable (and cheaper) alternative to Whistler? Is it easy to get to? Cheers.

It is like comparing a Rolls to an Opel and paying more, staying further from the lifts. Driving twice as far from an airport, having fewer option.

It is an alternative though

Dave, so in other words, bachelor is still expensive but you are far from lifts with less choice? or is that completely wrong...

Bachelor is cheaper, especially the hotels in Bend, but no on-mountain accomodation ... its a 30 min. drive away ... its skiing is pretty good but not as exciting at Whistler's skiing. If I were a green to blue level skier I'd actually prefer Bachelor, blue to double black I'd prefer Whistler.

If you're looking just for a good place to ski, and not into the big name resort thing, try Kicking Horse near Golden BC, Whitewater near Nelson, BC, Red Mountain near Trail BC --- all the aforementioned are much smaller but excellest (especially blue and black diamond level) skiing and much less cost -- and Sun Peaks near Kamloops BC (a smaller version of Whistler)

Both Bachelor and the mountains in BC that I mentioned are on the east side of the Cascades, so tend to get drier snow (and less rain) than Whistler.

Have to agree on those options but, accomodation at Kicking Horse is quite expensive.
Fernie is being promoted as one of the new locations for resort skiing also
