We will be in Chamonix next June. As it is low season do many places close ? Also will the wildflowers still be out? we are interested in nice walks, scenery etc - not skiing

It is not really the low season. Almost everything will be open.
A bit early for many mountain flowers but it depends when in June. Late June begins to bloom everywhere.

Hi Ellie,

Some gondola/lifts are closed until about the middle of June, ie. Mt. Blanc Tramway opens on the 14 June while some others won't open until end of June, beginning of July!
I mention this as some hikes require the use of the lifts to get to the starting point.
Anyway, some nice hikes which are not too strenuous are:

1) Le Lac Blanc. About 2 hours from the top of the Flegere cablecar.
2) The Grand Balcons, again about 2 hours each (two walks).
3) Le Chalet des Pyramides. 1.5 hours with lovely views of the Chamonix valley.

You should ensure you have good footwear (hiking boots) and wear layered clothing as the upper areas may still have snow. A backpack with plenty of water, a small first aid kit and a mobile phone which works in the area is also a must.
Go to the tourist office who will provide you with hiking details.

You should be able to see some flowers in June.

Have a lovely and safe trip,
John
