Manila NAIA taxi question
Posted: Mon June 16, 2008 10:59 PM UTC
I'm going to be visiting Manila for the first time soon. I understand that I can prepay for a taxi inside the airport at which point they give me a "coupon" that I can use to then get the taxi outside.

But i'm also meeting someone at the airport that I will want to come with me in the taxi. So my question is, can I prepay for the taxi, go outside and meet my friend, then get back to where I need to be in order to grab the taxi?

I guess i'm not sure what the layout of the airport is like and where I meet someone vs where I can get the prepaid taxi at.

If anyone could advise me I would apprectiate it.

There are 2 international terminals. Terminal 2 for Philippine Airlines flights and terminal 1 for all other. I presume you are in the all other category and will be at terminal 1.

The answer is yes, she can meet you but may have to pay a small fee.

This is how you will meet your friend.

After you finish with customes, there are two sets of glass doors.

Go through the first set of glass doors. On the right will be the money changers. On the left will be the ATM machines. Take this opportunity to get cashed up.

Go through the second set of glass doors. Go left for the private taxis or cross the road to go to the meeting area.

On the other side of the road will be two tunnels.

Take the left tunnel if your last name starts with a letter from A to M

Take the right tunnel if your last name starts with a letter from L to Z

At the bottom of the tunnell will be a roadway. On the footpath/sidewalk will be sign posts with the letters A to Z

On the opposite side of the roadway is a fence and the same sign posts A to Z.

Stand beside the letter relevent to your last name and while you are there, your friend will be let through the gate to come and meet you.

When I met a girl previously at terminal 1, she told me she had to pay P30 to be let through the gate.

Go back up the tunnel to the hire cars.

An alternaive to all this would be if your friend arranges the car and just meets you there with it.

I hope this helps!

im a regular visitor and get taxis from the airport on most occassions yes you can pay in advance but I normally pay the taxi driver after agreeing a price, the great thing about the philippines everyone is so polite and accommodating and as long as your polite too you can get most things without any problem just make sure you agree a price beforehand

A cheap, effective and easy option will be for your friend to meet you at the coupon taxi stand.
