My husband and I plan on going to Tikal in mid-August. How badly is the rain going to affect our visit?

I was in Tikal in June, just the beginning of the rainy season. For us, it would rain fairly frequently, but it was not an all-day rain. It would rain a few hours, then clear up. Usually the rain visited us in the afternoon. Morning would be gorgeous, the clouds would build up during the day, it would rain, and then clear up again. Such is the cycle. It is not a huge impediment to a vacation, but bring a good lightweight rain jacket. I also found an umbrella to be a huge help, since then I didn't have to wear another layer in the hot jungle.

I vividly remember one June day at Tikal when I stood in a late afternoon downpour and cooled off. It is likely to rain most days and most likely for a short while any time from mid-afternoon or evening.
