What is the best way to get from Milan to Malcesine in September, prefeably by train.

Train (http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/ferrovie/util/inglese.jsp ) up to peschiera del Garda (or Verona Porta Nuova if the train does not stop there) and then bus to Malcesine.

The nearest station to Malcesine is Rovereto.

will give you train times and fares (click 'buy' or cart icon) in English.

Journey time is about 2.5 to nearly 3 hours, with a change at Verona.

From Roverto you will need to take a bus to Torbole, then change buses to get to Malcesine or a taxi direct to Malcesine.

A much easier way might be to get the train to Verona, then take the bus direct to Malcesine.

will give you the bus timetable, but if it doesn't work go to www.apt.vr.it then click on 'orari e linee', then on 'M' under 'localita', then on the route numbers (62-64) next to 'Malcesine'. Journey takes about 1hr 45 mins.
