| Shanghai Shi | ShagHai to Beijing from PVG - or only from SHA? Suggestions please! Posted: Mon June 16, 2008 02:14 PM UTC
Could you propose a solution or comment - (I prefer not to wait until the last minute to book):
I have been looking at a round trip flight between ShanHai and Beijing for mid-September. Looks like domestic flights go from SHA (Shanghai Air Lines), except for a couple which I can't book on line. The alternative I see now is to call SAL all the way in China and book. I know it's best to wait, but since I already have my Orlando to ShangHai ticket (which I could cancel up to today at midnight) - I would prefer to cross this loop. Is taking a taxi from PVG to SHA worth the hassle (it will be around 2:30 in the afternoon so I am not sure about traffic). I have also thought of cancelling my existing flight and get one that gets me into Beijing - just not go to ShanHai. Any ideas? |

Why don't you try other airlines, such as Eastern Airline, Air China? They fly between Shanghai and Beijing daily with almost one flight every hour. It will cost around RMB150 (US$23) by taking taxi from PVG to downtown. 2.30pm is good time before rush hour comes at 5pm. You may also take airport shuttle bus where you can find it after walking out the airport. 6 bus lines take you to most destinations in the city which cost averagely RMB20 (US$3). Hope all above help on your planning.

Hi Drago - thanks for the note. I had tried China Air (not encrypted!) - and Eastern (schedule too early or late- need lead time to arrive and go thru customs and other one had a close to midnight arrival).
After reading your note I gave China Air one more try and I did find a page that had encryption. I must have come into the site with the wrong link. Thanks - all done!

Just check www.elong.com (or net?)where you can find airlines operating between Beijing and Shnaghai and the fares too. You can reserve your ticket also.
Since you will arrive in PVG, there are only a few flights that operate form PVG to Beijing while most of the dmestic flighst operate to Beijing from Hongqiao airport. It is cheaper to take one of the airport buses as earlier member suggested since 2:30pm may not be a rush hour in Shnaghai.

Thanks surendar ... I did book with Air China when I went in with the right link! I think after all those hours in the plane if I have to get lost it would be best to do it in the airport inbound ;=)

The two airports in Shanghai are Pudong, which is mostly international, on the east side of the city, and Hongqiao, domestic, to the south-west. There is a shuttle bus between them.
Generally speaking, it's not necessary to book in advance. In fact you may even pay more, because discounts are often available. Another option is to take the overnight train, city-centre to city-centre. That's a lot cheaper than flying, and saves hotel bills.

No, flights to/from Beijing use both SHA and PVG. Have you settled your tickets already?
