Hi
Gandantegchinlen Khiid and The Bogd Khaan Palace Museum is a must in Ulaanbator and The National Museum of Mongolian History and the Natural History Museum of Mongolia is also worth a visit. You must also take a stroll around the Sükhbaatar Square. However, I wasn't impressed by the Zanabazar Museum of Fine Arts. If you want to visit the nationalparks, you can reach Terelj National Park by daytrips from Ulaanbator. The Gobi National Park is also an option, but will take more than one day. Regards, Klaus

Around Mongolia are three interesting places: Bogdkhaan Uul, a Mountain area south to Ulaanbaatar, where you could go hiking. In these mountains live some wolves, bears and in the west red deers. Northeast to UB there is Terelj national park with very interesting different landscape. A good place for hiking as well, maybe about turtle rock, or to do some horse riding through the mountains or along the tuul river. There are many ger camps if you want to stay in the national park over night. Southwest to UB is Hustai National Park, where you can do some hiking and horse riding as well. When you are in Ulaanbaatar you can easily find a tour operator who organises short trips for a reasonable price. Be aware of really cheap tours, often drivers are drunk and guides don't speak English!!!
In the Central Post Office west to Sukhbaatar square is the tourist information center where you can get some general information. take the booklet "what's on ulaanbaatar", it has many very helpful advises and interesting offers of different companies. Have a good time in Mongolia!
