Puerto Varas Weather in october

Hi VT friends, I am planning to visit Puerto Varas in mid October 2008. Just wondering how the weather is during that month and whether I need to bring along warm clothing. Many thanks in advance.

The lake district can have any sort of weather at any time, so you will need some warm clothing with you. It will be early Spring and rain is probable some days. I would say a fleece jacket and something waterproof for on top.

Thanks for the tip. BTW, can you recommend cheap hotels in Puerto Varas? I intend to stay on a shoestring budget.

Definitly bring warm clothes it will be cold at night. At that time of the year I would look for a discount from place's and there is a couple of cheap hospedje's off the main street.

I am finalizing my travel plans as follows:

2 Oct ’08: 2 nights in Puerto Montt – any tips on hotels next to the bus terminal?

4-10 Oct’08 Travel by taxi or bus to Puerto Varas and stay 6 nights at the Meliá Patagonia Hotel (venue of the FAO meeting) but the rates are quite on the high end (USD175++/night) – any cheaper options nearby?

Many thanks in advance……
