| Lauterbrunnen | Trip to the Jungfraujoch (Top of Europe) Posted: Thu June 12, 2008 04:59 PM UTC
We are going to Switzerland this summer and will be staying in the Interlaken region. We want to do the trip to the Jungfrau all the way to the top of course. I have been reading lots about it and have noticed that you can take the train from Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald. We have a car so we will drive up to Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald and take the train from there to the Jungfrau.
My question to you is which of these train trips is the most beautiful. Should we take the train to the Jungfrau from Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald? It won't be our only visit to Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald as we will be staying for 11 days in that area. I just want to know which train trip is the nicest of the two. Thanks in advance, Ann |

You will have a wonderful time, all the trips are lovely, anyway to your question. I expect you will buy a rail card of some sort , we had the Jungfraubahnen pass but I think most passes will work for my suggestions. Firstly you can go from Lauterbrunnen via Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg and on to Jungfrau on the way up and then return via Kleine Scheidegg and Grindelwald back to Zweilutschinen, from there train back to Lauterbrunnen if your car is there. However when we were there we stayed at a campsite in Interlaken, drove to Zweilutchinen station and took the trains from there each day, free parking unlike Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald! When you get there pick up a copy of theJungfraubannen timetable and all will become clear. The staff at the stations are very helpful and usually speak english very well so can advise you. The trains run to the minute and all are timed to connect well so it is a real joy to use them. If I can help any further please ask.

Hi There,
Thank you so much for your answer! This is really helpful and thank you for the tip on parking at the Zweilutschinen Station. I will remember that. We will be buying the Bernese Oberland regional pass for 7 days, this should give us 3 days of free travel and 4 days at 50% off. I am looking forward to this so much! Greetings, Ann

If you are getting the Bernese Oberland Pass why then not just leave your car where your are staying and do everything using public transport. Public transport in Switzerland is probably the best organized and easiest to use in Europe.
