Stockholm Travel Forum

Hej,

We will be in Stockholm for 5 days this August (13-18) with our sons (4.5 and 1). We know many fun activities to do with our kids, but we are hoping to find opportunities for our 4 year old to play with other kids and speak Swedish. (He speaks Swedish with my husband, but if he is only with us, he will speak English). Can anyone recommend something like a morning day camp or organized play activity for preschoolers? Any ideas about Eskilstuna would be great too. We will be staying with relatives for a week, and there are no other children in the family.

im not a local so i dont know how good this could be, but ive heard about baby discos in stockholm. that sounded funny to me. as far as ive heard they are places that're open during the day, where parents can go with their kids and dance (either with their parents or with other kids). sometimes lunch is included too.
im learning swedish and my teacher, who now lives in spain, told us about this. maybe someone currently living there can give you more details :)

If you go to a playing ground, probably he will start to speak with others, and others with him - in Swedish. So we do in Poland, as my son speaks a bit Polish and usually children start to speak with him and he will learn more.

Why not go to a workshop place? Me and my child- (and adult) friends all enjoy the National Museum of Science and technology (Tekniska museet). It is very user-friendly oriented and interactive. In the museum´s science centre, Teknorama, you get to try loads of thrilling experiments, at your own pace of course. All for fun, no educational stress here :-) While workshopping your four year old will probably meet other children there, especially on a rainy day.

I also know Moderna Museet (for modern and contemporary art) have really good workshops also for smaller children.

At Kulturhuset by Sergelstorg they have fun rooms only for children with books and storytelling, painting and lots of fun. Its called "Rum för barn (rooms for children).

We have been 2 weeks in Poland in Warsaw now I and my son, 6. We have been on other play grounds too and my son has played with a lot of children and heard Polish. Every evening we have been to the same playing ground. And on the hostel many people tried to talk to him in Polish. After 2 weeks he seemed to understand a little..... :-)
