| Shanghai | Foreign Currency Exchange at Shanghai Pudong Airport Posted: Thu June 12, 2008 01:01 AM UTC
While I've traveled back to the USA 3 times already in the past 5 years, I've exchanged RMB to USD differently. First two times I used the foreign exchanges in JFK (high transaction fees). Last December I actually was able to get my Chinese friend to exchange at Bank of China here in Zhuhai. This time I am flying from Zhuhai to Shanghai to Atlanta, GA and wanted to know if anyone has had the experience of exchanging RMB for USD at the Pudong Airport. I'm a bit confused and don't want to get there with a pocket full of RMB only to learn that I can not exchange it for USD because of a technicality.
My problem is basically that I will not have enough time to exchange it at Bank of China with my friend like last time because the money may not be in my account until almost closing time the night before I leave Zhuhai. So if anyone knows what the rules are in my situation, please let me know. I have 2 weeks to figure this all out. If it helps, I have a Z Visa and work permit as I am a professor for 5 yrs in university with a bank account at Agricultural Bank. Thanks |

Best trick generally is to find a friendly travel agent who will do a cash exchange no problem.
