| Barcelona | Some Barcelona Questions Posted: Wed June 11, 2008 07:03 PM UTC
Hi
I intend to visit Barcelona on 23rd June for a week. I have a couple of questions - 1. Is the beach (sea) suitable for swimming, or is it like a polluted city beach? 2. Are there any boat trips you can take from Barcelona? 3. I am travelling on my own, so it would be kinda nice to meet up with a local person (or people) for coffee. Would be great actually to have some company for a few evenings, when you could show me some good pubs/restuarants/clubs to visit! I am 45 years old and from Ireland. I am young at heart and good company lol. :-) |

I did swim at the beach there and thought it was pretty decent i.e. not dirty. As for boat trips, the only one I know about is the short trip that takes you all along the coastline so you can see the city from the ocean. It's a nice view but make sure to do it on a hot & sunny day, because I was unlucky and did it on a cloudy rainy and COLD day, so it was chilly on board and the view wasn't that clear/nice. Good luck.

1.It is a city beach - but you can swim if the weather is good, but that isn't guaranteed these days!
2.search for 'golondrinas' 3.try at VTmeetings : http://meetings.virtualtourist.com/calendarEntry-2 4. The night of St.Joan/John 24thJune is spectacular (fireworks and beach parties :) Good luck and have a good stay!

1. Beach: the city beaches, Nova Icaria and around there, are pretty good for being in the city. In June they are pretty clean; by later in the summer the water can get pretty dirty due to all the beach goers. It varies from day to day. The water temp in June can still be a little cool, but swimmable. The weather is a gamble that time of the year.
2. Boat trips, "golondrinas," as mentioned above; are harbor cruises and also one that goes outside the harbor and up the coast a bit. You can get them right at the port where Ramblas meet the water (it doesn't actually, but keep going down to the water and you'll see what I mean). Or did you mean boat trips to somewhere else?
