Hiya,

whats needed( documents/licences) to hire scooters in Italy and where can one hire scooters in Naples?

My travel guide for Rome (DK Publishing) only says helmets are required by law and that you may need to leave a credit card number or cash as a deposit. But a webite for Naples (goEurope) says you can't rent a scooter in Naples because they are too easliy stolen.

You will need at least driving licence from your own country, passport and credit card. If you are from outside the EU then it is also sensible to get an International Driver's Licence, as extra documentation even if it it not actually required.

I wouldn't dream of riding a scooter in Naples. Traffic is chaotic. It will certainly be an interesting experience for you if you manage to find somwehere to rent you one; make sure you have very good health insurance!

It's probably a good thing that you may not be able to hire a scooter in Naples, because unless you are the holder of the current world land speed record and have a PhD in negotiating obstacle courses, you would be taking your life in your hands. Wait till you get there and you'll understand what I mean.
