| Bogotá | Tight Connection Posted: Tue June 10, 2008 08:52 PM UTC
Hello - I thought I would pose this question just in case someone has had experience in this issue. I am looking at flight from Washington, DC to Lima, Peru and found flights on the return on Avianca Aerovias via Bogota. The connection on the flights is only 35 min. Normally, I wouldn't choose such a tight connection, but it seems like a regular part of the schedule. Has anyone has such a tight connection in Bogota and/or aboard Avianca Aerovias? Although I may be able to get myself onboard, I doubt my luggage would make the connection. Thank you for any input!

That's a valid question....I see indeed that Avianca gives that as a connection when you look at their website.
You are right, YOU may make it, but your luggage.....Connecting internationally in Bogota is very simple and efficient. I have seen that (not personally experienced it though). My experience though is that Avianca is (has become) quite efficient, also with (lost/delayed) luggage. I travel frequently to/within Colombia (and Lima) and use Avianca (and AeroRepublica as well as others) and am quite satisfied with them. Wonder, with you, about experiences from others in this particular case....if that's of any help to you....

Thank you very much for the information. I just purchased a relatively inexpensive flight on TACA via San Salvador, El Salvador; therefore, I will not get to experience the Bogota connection. Happy travels!

I also believe you made the right choice.
I'll be flying with Avianca a few times early next year. I happened to discuss with a call centre officer exactly what you were asking. Going from international to domestic even with Avianca for both you would miss check-in and your luggage wouldn't be with you.

To be precise: yes, connecting from International to Domestic with Avianca cannot be done in 35 mins.
1)- the need to pass immigration, pick up luggage and pass customs 2)- the need to go from the El Dorado terminal to the Puente Aereo terminal (Avianca arranges transport) See my Colombia/Bogota transportation page. International to International stays within the El Dorado terminal. Just arrived (3 days ago) in Bogota from Caracas by Avianca. Several pax onboard connecting to Quito. They were being met by AV staff and immediately directed to their gate. I travel at least 2 x a year to BOG, using AV and P5/CM frequently. But as said earlier, TACA is a very good alternative.
