We took a day trip from Sharm to Cairo 2 years ago and it cost about £100/Person. You can do it by bus for £40/Person but it is a very, very long journey, especially in the heat. We decided to take the plane instead. It included the airfare, transfer to and from the airport to the hotel, a guide for the day, a visit to the National Museum in Cairo, pyramids and sphinx, lunch on a boat on the nile, visit to a papyrus museum and a visit to the oldest market in Cairo. All entrance fees were included in the price. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take your camera to the national museum but there are safety deposit boxes and if you've got a guide he will just take care of it for you. You can take photos in the gardens though. There were 5 of us in total and we were taken around by minibus. We set off at 5am from the hotel and got back around 11pm.

You can book in advance over the internet but you generally pay much higher rates. We also found that the tour operators in the hotel have got high prices. If you are staying in Sharm, your best option is to go to Naama Bay and check out the offers available. There is so much competition so prices are much lower. Just compare and go for the best deal. They are all pretty much the same. We could have probably gotten it cheaper but we didn't know at the time of booking.

Make sure you get a visa. If you stay in Sharm or Hurghada only you won't need one but you have to have one for Cairo. We got ours from the Egyptian embassy in London beforehand but it is easier and costs the same if you get it at the airport in Sharm. Can't remember whether it was £10 or £15 person. We had 1 lady on the trip who was picked up before us but didn't have a visa so after having taken the entire hotel pick-up round (which is the most annoying part of the day trip) and offloading at the airport she was shipped back to her hotel. She wasn't a happy customer.

If you want to check flights within Egypt, you can look at timetables, prices and even book online now. The website for Egypt Air is www.egyptair.com If you do book online, put in Egypt as your home country and you will get a cheaper price.

Just to clarify a point from the previous reply. If you go to Hurghada you will absolutely need a full Egyptian visa. You only don't need a visa if you are going to South Sinai, which is Sharm, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba. You can easily get the visa at the airport for a cost of not more than 100l.e. (10 pounds). Or you can get the visa before you leave from the Egyptian consulate. This is a couple of pounds more expensive and not really necessary. To go to Cairo you will need a visa as well.

Hope you have a great trip!

In order clear the visa disturbance allow me to explaine!

You will not nead a visa for the Sinai peninsula (open your atlas!!). Not for Sharm, Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba, etc. Sinai is still under UN protection and that will give this soil of land a different legal status.

But as soon as you cross the Suez canal or the Gulf of Suez you will be on the main land of Egypt and than you will need it. That goes for Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel and.. Hurghada!!

But on Sinai there are exceptions! For Ras Mohamed National Park (and some other places) a visa is requiered!
