Just booked my flights to Bangladesh over Christmas coming. I have 3 weeks, and would like to travel around, and then see if its possible to cross over into India and up into Bhutan!?!? im happy with home stays or reasonable level of comfort, and am in need of advice as to how best to travel, if i should book a guide, and if i do need to book a guide, who with!?!?

Anyhow, over to everyone.

Thanks to choose Bangladesh as your next travel destination. Three weeks is good for travel arround the Bangladesh.

Yes you can cross the Bangladesh-India border for entiring India and also Bhutan. I can arrange a home stay facilities for you, if you have not problem to stay in a home without A/C facilities. But it will not so expensive for you.

For your kind information it takes $ 20 for per day accomodation with food. If you give me the responsibility then I can arrange a guide for you, it takes $ 25-40 per day.

However, whre R U come from and when?

Thanks

Saiful

Hello! Thank you for coming to Bangladesh. I guess I'm a bit late in replying to you but here's my advice.

1. There are 5 star hotels that charges you quite a lot the you get the service along with it.

2. In Gulshan area, there's a few smaller hotels. They are nice, comfy, staffs are friendly and the price is less than 100 USD per night. There are rest houses for a bit longer stay - most of them are in Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara area. These areas are quite foreigner friendly and safe enough. The embassies are all in these are too.

3. If you want home stay - talk to any Bangladeshis you know. It's better to stay with someone you know or they know than a total stranger. Check http://www.couchsurfing.com/ <- you might find someone who can help you out. I am emphasizing on living in the Gulshan/Banani/Baridhara area again and again. Because if you need any serious help from your embassy, it's just 10 min away. Every embassy got their own club where you can meet others who can help you greatly.

4. Looking at your travel plan - I suggest you go with someone who's been doing this tour business for a long time. Check http://www.guidetours.com/home.htm. Their office address is:
The Guide Tours
Darpan Complex
1st Floor, Plot No. 2
Gulshan Circle 2
Dhaka 1212
Phone: 880-2-9886983
Fax: 880-2-9886984

They are a total no-nonsense company who charges just right and has excellent service. They try to go beyond their way to help you out. They have years of experience with foreigners and know when you need a mosquito repellent and when you need sunscreen. My friend from Netherlands went to Sundarban with his German friend and they highly appreciated it. I myself went to their hill-tracks resort with my Singaporean wife and we got no complaints. My office had lots of consultants from US and Europe and they took there service & liked it.
They are the only one who takes you to the Bay of Bengal for Whale watch - which is their own Whale & Dolphin saving project.

I hope you have a great trip. Any questions you got - drop me a line and I'll reply to you...

hey neil...glad to hear you're visiting bangladeh during christmas. there are a few hotels you could check out which are farely cheap. Most of these hotel n guest houses are in the diplomatic enclaves of gulshan, banani n baridhara. there are so many guest houses that I have lost count. Royal Park Residence, Lake Castle Hotel, Lake Shore hotel, Sarina, Asia Pacific blossom hotel, washington hotel and so many more that could offer you a good deal. As for touring inside the country you could try using the services of Guide tours or Galaxy holidays. As for trips to India and Bhutan you could get in touch with The travel Channel. Look for Andy or Andre or MAsud and they will set u up. They are a reputale travel house handling a lot of the embassies, the american school and other foreign organisations travel and tour requirements. their website is www.travelchannelonline.net, located in Gulshan 1 and their numbers are +88029881082, 9881085. If your looking for stays at the Radison, Westin, Sheraton or Pan Pacific i think i can avail my corporate discount rate but I have to check first and revert to you. If u wanna attend mass then the closest church is at Banani where we all go. should you have further queries drop me a line n i will try my best to help you out with a little more info...alternately you could mail me at lyn_ver@hotmail.com
