| Bali | Bali Trip 26 Aug - 1 Sept. 08 Posted: Tue June 10, 2008 03:43 AM UTC
Dear VTers,
I will be going to Bali for an animal welfare conference that will be held on the 27 - 29 Aug at the Sanur Beach Hotel. Anyway, I planned to extend my trip to Bali from 29 Aug to 1 Sept and decided to stay at Ari Putri Hotel. My questions are: 1) Have anyone here stayed at Ari Putri Hotel before? May I know what you think of it? 2) Being a Muslim and a vegetarian, is it easy to find Muslim (halal) and vegetarian food outlets nearby? 3) Any recommendation for an affordable and reputable spa around Sanur? 4) How much would it cost me for a taxi from the airport to Sanur? I appreciate all your replies. Thank you in advance :-).... |

Salam Siti. In Denpasar you will find many warungs that cater to the Islamic tastes, particularly of Java, including vegetarian. Also you will note that if shopping for package foods in most all markets in Bali, the vast majority of these foods will indicate if they are Halal...which most are. Also, many of the restaurants in and around Sanur include favorite dishes that will satisfy you. This conference that you are attending will be well organized and you can that particular dietary needs of attendees will be addressed. Taxi from the airport to Sanur (depending on where in Sanur) should run you in the 50,000 IDR range...or about $5.00 US, tops, as Sanur is fairly close to the airport. I’m sorry that I can’t tell you anything about the Ari Putri Hotel as we live in Ubud. Best wishes for a great conference and enjoy your stay on Bali! PS, your bahasa Malay will get you by here very nicely as bahasa Indonesia is largely based on your native language.

Salam, Siti.
Yes, Ubud is wonderful and it’s only about 40 minutes from Sanur to Ubud, unless the traffic is heavy that day, or there are a lot of ceremonies going on which can also hold up traffic for a while. It is well worth a visit, and the drive itself is also interesting. These days with the recent 30% gas hike, you can expect to pay a good English speaking Balinese driver/guide for about 500,000 IDR for a full day. Cheers, and have fun.

Ya, I agree what ubudian said, but with a new gasoline price, the taxi fare will also rise up.
You could find muslim food at any PADANG RESTAURANT and GADO-GADO cuisine is a good one for vegetarians. I never stay at Ari Putri but you could try JAMBU INN family home stay at 54 Hang Tuah street Sanur Bali with phone number +62361.286501 or 286173, the hotel just 10 minutes walking to Sanur Beach Hotel. For round trips, it would be better if you could share with another participants to rent a car . Regards from meiyergani
