Amsterdam Rent a small motorcycle
Posted: Mon June 9, 2008 02:39 PM UTC
Hello, I am a Brazilian citizen who will be traveling in the
Netherlands from December 2008 to January 2009. During this time, I
would like to have motorcycle transportation. As I see it, I have two
options: (1) Buy a motorcycle in the Netherlands and sell it before
returning to my country; (2) Lease/rent a motorcycle for the
months I will be there. I already have a motorcycle license in
the Brazil and an international driver's license that show that I can ride a motorcycle.

I am looking for the information that will allow me to choose between
these two options. Specifically, I need to know whether it will be
possible to purchase and register the motorcycle on a Brazilian traveler with tourist visa as me. If so, what are the steps or actions that are required and the associated registration costs, etc. Additionally, I would like to know whether I would be able to obtain a month lease/rental and if so, again what steps would be required and what the estimated costs would be.

Mainly, I would like to know where in Amsterdam I can find motorcycle rental places that rents small motorcycles as Sprint or ST Tomos”, motorbikes, electric scooters or any small motorcycle 25 MPH speed.

Thanks
Cignacio

From the yellow pages, motor rentals in Amsterdam:

I hope you realize it will be winter in December-January, and a cold/rainy period in the Netherlands?

Cheers
Dennis

Like Pijlmans I like to point out, the winter months are not ideal to ride a motor cycle.

With an International Driving License you can go for both options: buying or renting.

Buying implements you also have to insure the bike, what can be a costly thing.

You also mention a motorcycle with a 25 MPH speed. In the Netherlands these are called "brommers", cycles with just a 50cc (or less) engine. These latter will be much cheaper to rent or buy (and also the fuel comsumption will be smaller).

And then there are electrical bicycles as well.

I do not know if you have to travel at odd times or to odd places, but using public transportation might be an option to consider.
