| Grand Canyon | Grand Canyon & Bryce / Zion - 4 day trip in July Posted: Sun June 8, 2008 05:06 PM UTC
We are planning a 4 day trip in July to the Grand Canyon and Bryce starting from Las Vegas. I would love to get recommendations for a 4 day trip. Where to go? Where to stay? How much time to spend at each place? Thanks in advance.

One idea is to drive from Vegas to Zion and spend the first day there then head on to Bryce and spend two days there, then head to the NORTH rim of the Grand Canyon and see the canyon from a perspective that most people miss. It is at least 1000 feet higher than the South Rim and in a cooler pine forest. Then head back to Vegas from here. I think this would be very doable and enjoyable in four days. It would also save the time and mileage of heading to the South Rim.

Kathy's itinerary is good and is a good way to do things.
Places to stay : El Rio lodge - Springdale gateway to Zion Historic Smith hotel - Glendale halfway between Zion and Bryce Bashful Bob's motel - Page on the way to Grand Canyon The above were all around $40 3 years ago but in SEPTEMBER. Plenty of other choices in Panguitch, Tropic and Kanab. It's probably too late to book anything in the park itself.

I would start at Zion... or vice versa if you wish. Spend a day at Zion (check the Best Western in Mt Carmel or Springdale hotels), then head north (60 minute drive) t Bryce. You could stay at Ruby's Inn (located just outside the park) or contact Xanterra for a room inside the Park. It is gettinglate to get reservations atthis point. So get right on it.
It will take 5 hours at least to get to the SOuth rim of the Grand Canyon. You didn't say which side you wanted to go to. I really like the south rim better - much better views. Check out my page to see what I am talking about. Look at what Xanterra has to offer inside the South rim for rooms. Let me know if you need some advice on lodging. It would be up to you how long to stay at each location. Remember to build in travel time. Check Mapquest for accurate times. What you are doing, a person could take 10 days to enjoy. Three parks..that's great. Consider buying a Park's pass for $80.00 in case you would visit another N P inside of a year. Have fun. Mike
