Euromeet 2010 in Krakow, Poland! You are welcome :-)

What do you think about Euromeet 2010 in Krakow, Poland?

Well, after a lot of talks and discussions with my real and virtual friends from Poland, I have already made a decision to try to organize the Euromeet in Cracow, Poland in May or at the begenning of June 2010. But I surely do know that the final choice of the place for Euromeet 2010 depends on your - that is VT community - decision. Please, please do support the idea :-)! YOU ARE WELCOME!

Why in Krakow, Poland? Do you want the whole list? OK, just top 5 reasons:

1. Many VT-ers from middle-eastern and eastern Europe should come as Poland is much more affordable for them than Western Europe which is still much more expensive than Poland.

2. Easy transportation: there are a lot of cheap flights from all over Europe and for those coming by cars there is a motorway from German border to Krakow (well, the last 50 km close to German border will be completed by 2010)

3. A medieval city of Krakow itself - a cultural capital of Poland - offers uncountable tourist attractions for lovers of history, old architecture, crazy nightlife, great Polish food etc. etc.

4. There are numerous destinations to visit close to Krakow (one or half-day tours) like for example:
- Auschwitz (Oswiecim) former Nazi consentration site, a UNESCO world heritage monument, memorial and museum now;
- 700-year-old the Wieliczka Salt Mine (underground tour) placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List;
- the shrine of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List (41 chapels and churches at one place);
- the Tatra Mountains (only 2499 m high but looks like much higher Alps);
- Krakow is located close to both Slovakia and Czechia - it's possible to visit 3 countries in one day.
- add at least two more off the beaten paths: beer museum located in the Polish oldest brewery in my hometown and closeby lovely town of Pszczyna with fabulous castle interiors and re-intruduced wisents (European bisons) to look at in the castle gardens.

5. There is a bunch of very friendly Polish VT-ers who welcomes you and would love to see you in Krakow!

Greetings from Poland! WELCOME TO EUROMEET 2010 IN KRAKOW, POLAND! WOW!

Dearest Martha (nomad7890),

If you only accept my bad habits and other inconveniences (details in e-mail sent to you haha) you are surely welcome to join Dutch-Polish team (matrazy0, sachara, co48 and me) in my car on the way from Lviv through Sibiu back to Krakow and create American-Dutch-Polish VT team this way.

The whole Dutch-Polish team as above :-).

P.S. We wait for the next crazies in their cars to join us on itinerary: Krakow, Poland - Lviv, Ukraine - Sibiu, Romania - Hungary (probably Debrecen) - Slovakia (probably Kosice) - Krakow, Poland on 31th May to 7th June, 2010 or on any part of this itinerary.

I just signed up for Lviv too!
As I plan to go by car to Krakow ... I am thinking of going to Lviv with my car too, but I didn't decide yet. Will tell you more when I finished my plans :o) But I only have place for 4 people and a very small place for luggage, so maybe 3 people (incl. me) would be more convenient. But as I said, I will tell you Matt.

Hi Ursula,

I plan to travel with Matt on the way *back* from Lviv to Romania, but if I understand correctly I still need to get from Krakow to Lviv. If you have another space in your car I'd like to put my name in with Teresa's. Will be glad to share any costs.

I would like to say BIG THANK YOU to my friend Linda (VT-er lmkluque) from San Diego, California who can't come to Krakow for the Euromeet but who helps me and us a lot. She corrects my English mistakes on all pages on the meeting(s).

Linda, thank you very much. Sooner or later we all will come to San Diego to visit you. Expect over 100 people. You are warned! Keep smiling :-)))

Matt.

Oh Hasi, you would not be saying that if you noticed all the Albums that Matt has listed but not written information on yet!! I don't know how he has the energy!!

The only word I can think of that really says, "Matcrazy," an extremely energetic and forceful person, is Dynamo!!

<Linda wrote: "You got most things covered...">

Linda,

You are wrong, we still have a lot of things to do, especially on the meeting schedule (+ post-meetings). I (and a few my very creative real Polish friends from Krakow, not VT-members though) have a lot of plans/projects to make our Euromeet very special and different but most of it is difficult or even very difficult to arrange. So, I prefer to say nothing more on it just now.

However I can disclose that general idea is to divide 3 days in Krakow in the following day:
1. Highlights of the city (if possible incl. special places difficult to visit on own);
2. Out of the city (a full day tour probably by hired air-conditined buses or by public mini-buses + trains - depends on costs);
3. Off the beaten path places difficult to find out with some local touch added, all outside the Old Town.

Keep in mind, that I would like very much to cut costs as much as possible and thus way to make Euromeet more available to many cool (mostly young) VT-ers from central-eastern and eastern Europe. Well, it seems to be a very difficult task.

Matt - dynamo :-)))

I've just booked my room at Globtroter Guesthouse and got a good deal with the hotel reservation system (www.hrs.com). I use this website quite often and can recommend it. Price for a single room is 35,25 €. For breakfast they charge an extra 10 polish zloty.

Matt, I didn't not say, "<Linda wrote: "You got most things covered..."> "

That was Hansi.

Read my reply and you will see that I know, from all those Album titles, that you are planning to add plenty more!

I just don't know how you can do it all!! Amazing!!

Excuse, Linda, it was Hansi indeed.

Thanks all for nice words, we can't wait to see you all in Krakow, then again in Lviv, Sibiu, Hungary, Slovakia... and who knows sooner or later in Africa for sure :-).

May I organize 1st official African Virtual Toursit Meeting 2011 in say Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Kenya or South Africa (the easiest African destinations, I suppose) for you? Local helpers/organizers needed. Well, I also think over Mexico (easy destination for Americans/Canadians?)

Hmmm... I have to concentrate on Krakow and Lviv now :-).

Hugs,
Matt.

G,
I (EuromeetKrakow2010) am able to log in using the following trick only: the first page after I log in is "Grails Runtime Exception etc." as I posted in the technical forum. To use VT I have to open next page of www.virtualtourist.com which is OK and I am logged in on it. It's uncomfortable, but what to do?

Matt.
