| Tallinn | Tartu. ... feasible day trip? Posted: Sat June 7, 2008 08:47 PM UTC
I'll be in Tallinn in July. I've found the Estonian railway website, and quite fancy a daytrip to Tartu.
Is this feasible, do you think, or is is too much travelling for one day? And is there anything I should be wary of or know about beforehand? How far is the railway station from the centre of Tartu? |

A day trip is very feasible - especially if you take the fast train at 07.46am, that will take you into Tartu a little after 10am. You could take the bus back then, as you will already be in the centre of town. The train station is about 1km from town, but regular buses depart from outside the station anyway, and taxis too. There's nothing you need to be wary of, but if you want to travel 1st class (free coffee, WIFI etc) you need to book online beforehand, or purchase a ticket in the train station in Tallinn at least a few hours ahead.

Hi ,
My advice would be to take the Bus down and back about 2 hrs travel time. The trains are not that reliable whilst there is a really frequent bus service that drops you right in the cente of Tartu. The bus station is about a €3 ride out of town in Tallinn at most. Having lived in Tartu and Tallinn I would recommend Tartu for a day and possible overnight trip but if you plan to do an overnight trip make sure its a weekend night as the town is pretty much dead mid week. Tartu is a beautiful little town. Will
